Living with Pets in Cabo San Lucas

I have two dogs and three cats that live with me here in Cabo.  I brought one of the dogs with me, and recently adopted another after losing my older female dog.  I adopted from the local Humane Society shelter, and it was an easy process.  I walk my dogs on the beach every morning and most afternoons as well.  I have one black cat named Shadow that I found in the neighborhood and she thinks she is a dog.  She follows us to the beach and waits by the walkway for us to return, and she walks all the way around the block with us in the afternoons!

There are many options for veterinaries here in Cabo and all over the Los Cabos region.  I use Dr. Samantha Acosta from the Animal Care Center, who has an office close to the plaza of Pedregal right behind the California Ranch Market and Romeo & Julieta Restaurant.  She is wonderful with both dogs and cats, and has a lot of experience with local pet issues.  One important note is that heartworm is prevalent here in the Baja, which many pet owners are not aware of.  It is important to use preventative treatment for ticks, fleas and mosquitos here.  Groomers are plentiful as well, and offer reasonable rates.

If you are thinking of moving to Cabo with pets there are a few things to keep in mind: you will need a health certificate from your local vet in order to transport your pet across the border.  You can find plenty of options for good pet food and other accessories here in Cabo.

You will find that Pedregal is a pet friendly neighborhood with many happy pet residents.  The Los Cabos Humane Society (check out their website or Facebook page) works to trap feral cats in the neighborhood, and there are sidewalks for walking all over.  Dog waste bags are provided at two stations for those who want to bring their dog to the beautiful Pedregal Beach.

Casa Nina is a great home for pets located on the marina side of Pedregal.  With three bedrooms and three and a half baths it is a great family home.  Your four legged family member will love the fully fenced grassy front yard with shade and the huge patio and pool area which also provides a nice shady area under the pergola.  Offered at $650,000.

Hola Jennifer My husband and I have been vacationing in Cabo for the past 6 winters at the Terrasol so I am very familar with the beach you walk. We now have a dog and she is booked on the plane to come with us in December. My question to you is Raw dog food available in Cabo and if not do you think it would be a problem bringing raw dehydrated dog food from Canada. I have contacted the Mexican Consulate in Vancouver but they cannot give me any information on this subject. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Regards, Suzi
